Leadbetter’s Bake Shop has changed its name to Better Bakeries, Inc. The San Francisco-based company also discontinued producing its flagship item English muffins to instead pursue allergen-sensitive food manufacturing and co-packing, including the production of gluten-free and nut-free products. Earlier this year, the firm obtained certification as an approved manufacturer from the Gluten-Free Certification Organization. <read more>

The University of Toronto Mississauga has become the first Canadian university campus to offer a certified gluten-free facility to their students and faculty. It earned its certification through the Gluten Free Food Service (GFFS) Certification program. fusion 5 Asian Food Box launched earlier this month in the Temporary Food Court in the university’s Davis Building. “The menu at fusion 5 will accommodate growing demand from those who wish to avoid gluten because of allergies or other concerns.
